Paakkola Conveyors to supply the conveyors for the new Kevitsa mine

May 23st, 2011

Paakkola Conveyors Oy is supplying conveyor, transfer and take-up systems for the Kevitsa multi-mineral mine owned by First Quantum Minerals Oy.  The eleven conveyors have a capacity ranging from 200-2,000 tonnes/h and a combined length of 1.8 kilometres.

“As well as manufacturing the systems at our state-of-the-art conveyor factory in Tervola, we are also responsible for installing them at the mine”, explains Tommi Juntikka, the managing director of Paakkola Conveyors Oy.

Installations begin in May and the completed ready-to-run conveyor systems will be handed over to the customer in October.

The Kevitsa multi-mineral mine, which is located in the town of Sodankylä, will produce ore concentrates from deposits within the nickel-platinum and copper-gold mineral groups. About five million tons of ore and several times more of overburden and waste rock will be mined annually from this large open pit mine. The annual production rate will be about 85,000 tons of nickel and 55,000 tons of copper concentrate.

Managing director Tommi Juntikka considers this contract a significant event in the history of the company as it supports Paakkola's long-term objectives:

“Paakkola aims at a steady and controlled growth in the domestic market and an expansion of its international operations. Paakkola is a responsible company with the desire to build sustainable cooperation and engagement with its customers”, says Tommi Juntikka.
